Will Young and Gareth Gates's rendition of The Long And Winding Road was today named one of the worst Beatles covers of all time.

The chart-topping track by the Pop Idol stars was the third worst in a poll for digital TV channel Music Choice.

Star Trek star William Shatner's spoken-word massacre of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds was thought to be the biggest crime against the Beatles' canon.

Today's poll coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' first number one, From Me To You, this week.

Shatner finished just ahead of TV's singing piglets Pinky & Perky who did a version of All My Loving.

Formula One driver Damon Hill finished in fourth position for his version of Drive My Car. Others on the list included: Jim Carrey's I Am The Walrus; Wet Wet Wet's version of With A Little Help From My Friends; and Madness lead singer Suggs's rendering of I'm Only Sleeping.
