Gottwood festival preview: Raving in the stunning Welsh woodland

This weekend, a tribe of revellers head to Welsh island Anglesey for one of the clubbing scene's favourite festivals.

On its 10th anniversary, Gottwood is set to have its best year ever, with a cracking line-up and legions of fans flocking to its stunning site. For many, it marks the start of the UK festival season.

The setting here is as picturesque as it gets — it is surely among the most beautiful festivals in the country, with stages set across a sprawling woodland.

The fact that the DJs playing here often stick around afterwards to catch other sets is testament to the quality on display, too. Gottwood has always supported the fast-rising electronic stars of tomorrow, but the heroes of today are very much present too — Sonja Moonear, Margaret Dygas, Archie Hamilton, Nicolas Lutz and Craig Richards are among the big-hitters.

Each stage is curated by the people behind some of the UK's best parties and music labels. Percolate is one of them. It will have all-round hero Andrew Weatherall performing, and it promises to be one of the best spots to party at over the weekend. Music blog Stamp The Wax has curated a special programme, while Jive Talk — at Gottwood since day one — will look after a stage in a woodland clearing. Banoffee Pies, Half Baked Records and Red Light Radio are among the other names to keep an eye out for over the weekend — although stages and set times are only announced upon arrival.

Away from the music, be sure to make a beeline to the Nest for lunch or dinner — the floating restaurant serves up some delicious food, which is more than welcome after hours upon hours of dancing.
